Today, Mixed In Key has released Odesi, a new type of software that’s designed to speed up music production in Ableton Live, Logic, Reason, Pro Tools and all other music production software. Odesi, the start of your musical journey Odesi (pronounced Odyssey) is designed around the concept of harmonically sketching ideas for tracks to see how they sound, before exporting them as MIDI to a DAW to finish your track. Mixed in Key, the makers of the eponymous software, are continuing their march to diversification with some brand new software: this time a web app to help you with your productions. Any tool that can help with that (like the recently-released Melodics finger drumming software) should be useful. There’s always been a lot of crossover between the two, thanks to the symbiotic relationship they traditionally had together, so it makes sense for DJs to strive to have a better understanding of music theory and production in general. I'll try to post about the downloadable version when I get a chance to use it.There’s been some heated debate recently about the link between the DJ and producer, thanks mainly to David Morales’ musings on the matter. Finally, I hope they add more than just 4 bar chord progression options and more options in general. I also tried to change the key with a basic chord progression and a kick drum and the kick got super loud and started to distort all of a sudden. I have a strong internet connection at home and I still had issues with freezing. I think it has the potential to be a great tool but seems still very much in the beta stage. Exporting midi information was easy and worked well. It doesn't let you hit a wrong note, so you can have no music theory background and come up with something pretty quickly. Throw down a chord progression you like then come up with a melody in that same key on your midi controller (haven't tried this) or computer keyboard. I think after they work out the bugs, it will be a great tool. The video on their website describes it pretty well. I really hope the downloadable version works better than the web version. Apparently the downloadable version has more instrument options and they made it seem like you could use your own synth vst if you wanted. The web based version only has a piano as an instrument and basic drum patterns to choose from.

The downloadable version requires you to have Mac OSX 10.10, which I don't have either (I'll upgrade tonight). I would have thought the website would have had a log in button just like any other website would have. I had the same idea to use it on work breaks but it requires you to access via an email link. I bought it last night and tried playing around with it.
